If the tuition feels out of reach for your family, we encourage you to apply for a grant. <strong>The tuition assistance application opens in September.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Albuquerque Academy Tuition Assistance is\u2026<\/h1>\n<p>an opportunity to offer a life-changing education to students who come from diverse economic backgrounds and a partnership with their families. School funds are used to help bridge the gap between full tuition and what a family, using their own financial resources, can afford.<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility for assistance is calculated using a separate, confidential application and verification process, and admission committees do not consider a family\u2019s ability to pay when making a child\u2019s admission decision.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible applicants with the strongest admission profiles are prioritized for grants. Families of admission applicants are notified if they received a grant on the same day admission decisions are released. First and foremost, families are expected to use their own resources to make a maximum and honest effort to pay for their child\u2019s tuition at Albuquerque Academy. We partner with a web-based third party, School and Student Services (SSS), to verify information, assess financial capacity, and calculate an estimate of what a family can be expected to pay (aka the \u201cfamily contribution\u201d) using key financial factors (most, but not all, are in the bulleted list below). If the amount a family is expected to pay toward the tuition is less than the full annual tuition expense, a student has financial need and is eligible for tuition assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Considerations for eligibility:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Income including wages\/salary earned by adults in the household(s) that support the student, rental income, social security, child support, and other types of taxable and nontaxable income<\/li>\n<li>Assets such as real estate equity, bank accounts, 529 accounts, investments, and business assets<\/li>\n<li>Debt<\/li>\n<li>Financial obligations related to living expenses, healthcare costs, and tax liabilities<\/li>\n<li>Profit and losses for self-employment or privately held business interests<\/li>\n<li>Household size<\/li>\n<li>Enrollment of other children in tuition-charging schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;How is tuition assistance awarded?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;how-awarded&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Need-based grants are awarded to selected incoming students at all grade levels who apply and qualify for tuition assistance. While we would like to provide assistance to every admitted student with demonstrated financial need, our resources are limited and unable to support all who qualify. After admissions decisions have been finalized, but before admission decisions are sent to families, the Tuition Assistance Selection Committee meets to prioritize potential award recipients based on the strength of their admission profiles. Typically, incoming students who are selected to receive assistance are ranked among the top students accepted for admission. Children can be admitted and qualify for assistance yet still not receive an award because of their relatively lower rank within the admitted-student pool.<\/p>\n<p>Tuition assistance is typically renewed each year for returning students who demonstrate, through their updated tuition assistance application, that financial support is necessary to continue enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>It is our goal to award 100% of the amount for which the admitted student qualifies.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What is the average income of a family that qualifies for assistance?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;income-qual&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Because grants are awarded to families across a wide range of income levels, providing such a number would not accurately convey who is served by our program. Many financial factors in addition to income, such as net worth, family size, and number of children in tuition-charging schools, are considered in the evaluation of a family\u2019s financial need. Families who have more than one child enrolled at Albuquerque Academy may qualify for assistance at relatively higher household income levels.<\/p>\n<p>We are happy to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/calendly.com\/aa-tuition-assistance\/tuition-assistance-consultation\">schedule a personal consultation<\/a>\u00a0with you to discuss your financial situation and if it makes sense for you to apply.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What happens in cases of divorced, separated, or never-married parents and blended families?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;family-situations&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Both biological parents \u2014 and their current spouses and\/or partners, if any \u2014 must submit separate Parent Financial Statements and required tax documentation on SSS, regardless of whether one parent has disclaimed any responsibility, legal or otherwise, for educational expenses. The financial resources of step-parents or partners will be considered in the calculation of financial need on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>We understand that issues with non-custodial parents\/guardians can be complicated. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.edu\/contact-us\/?department=tuition-aid\">contact us<\/a> if extenuating circumstances exist regarding your child\u2019s other biological parent.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Must both parents be fully employed to receive tuition assistance?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;parent-employment&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Although parents are not required to be fully employed, they do have the primary responsibility to pay tuition. Parents are expected to fully use all family resources before assistance funds are awarded. The ability to work is a resource almost all parents have. We expect a minimal level of income, equal to one full Academy tuition, from each parent. If a parent earns less, then an income equal to one full Academy tuition is attributed to that parent in the calculation of family contribution and proposed grant. Exceptions are granted to parents with a disability, caring for a preschool child or disabled dependent, and of retirement age.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Are there special instructions for families who have multiple children applying for assistance?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;multi-children&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Parents only need to file one tuition assistance application for all their children applying for tuition assistance. Students attending or applying to the Academy should be listed as applicants; other children should be listed as dependents.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;What results are possible for admission applicants who also submit a tuition-assistance application?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;results&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Students who receive an \u201cadmit\u201d decision will receive one of the following tuition assistance decisions. An \u201cadmit\u201d decision does not mean that an enrollment spot will be held open indefinitely for your child. Please read all correspondence carefully to understand the requirements and deadlines that must be met to reserve an enrollment spot.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tuition Assistance Awarded:\u00a0<\/strong>Your child has been selected to receive a grant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tuition Assistance Waiting Pool<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Due to limited resources, no grant is awarded even though your family qualified for assistance. The TA wait pool allows accepted students who did not receive an award with their initial notification to remain eligible for any funds that become available later in the spring or summer. The TA wait pool does\u00a0<i>not<\/i>\u00a0hold a child\u2019s enrollment spot beyond the enrollment contract deadline for newly admitted students.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Does Not Qualify<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> No grant is awarded. What your family is expected to pay toward the tuition expense (the\u201d family contribution\u201d) was enough to cover the full cost of tuition.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Incomplete Application<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> No grant is awarded. Your family\u2019s application was not submitted or was missing required documents. To avoid this result, check your email frequently and comply with all requirements and requests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students who receive an \u201cAdmission Waitpool\u201d or \u201cDeny\u201d decision will<em> not receive a tuition-assistance decision.<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;When will we know if we receive a grant?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;when&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Tuition assistance decisions for new applicant families will arrive electronically on the same day admission decisions are released. Most returning families currently receiving assistance will be notified in January of their award for the following academic year.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;If we receive tuition assistance, will my child receive a similar grant in future years?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;future-grants&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]It depends. As long as your child remains at our school, we plan to renew their tuition assistance each year according to your family\u2019s financial need (as determined through SSS and our own policies) and as resources allow. Changes in income, net worth, family status, the enrollment of other children at tuition-charging schools, and\/or other financial considerations may result in an increase or decrease in an award amount from year to year. In the past, grant amounts have typically remained similar from year to year for families with no major changes in their financial circumstances.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Must I reapply for tuition assistance each year?&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;reapply&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;heading-expander&#8221;]Yes, even though we budget on a multi-year basis with the assumption that we will support students through their entire tenure at the Academy, a family must reapply every year by the deadline.
