Albuquerque Academy provides need-based tuition assistance grants that support students across the socio-economic spectrum. If the tuition feels out of reach for your family, we encourage you to apply for a grant. The tuition assistance application opens in September.

an opportunity to offer a life-changing education to students who come from diverse economic backgrounds and a partnership with their families. School funds are used to help bridge the gap between full tuition and what a family, using their own financial resources, can afford.

Eligibility for assistance is calculated using a separate, confidential application and verification process, and admission committees do not consider a family’s ability to pay when making a child’s admission decision.

Eligible applicants with the strongest admission profiles are prioritized for grants. Families of admission applicants are notified if they received a grant on the same day admission decisions are released. Tuition assistance is typically renewed on an annual basis for recipients who re-apply and demonstrate financial support is necessary to re-enroll for subsequent school years.

We welcome your family’s application and look forward to working with you. We encourage all interested parents/guardians to attend an informational webinar to learn more!

Please email the tuition assistance office with your questions or call (505) 828-3352.

[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” active_section=”0″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section title=”Tuition Assistance Team” tab_id=”ta-team”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Emily Kienzle 2017* Sarah Burkhart 2023 *Year of first appointment[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_accordion][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row title=”Student-Athlete College Outreach Program” style=”custom” gradient_color_1=”turquoise” gradient_color_2=”blue” gradient_custom_color_1=”#dd3333″ gradient_custom_color_2=”#eeee22″ gradient_text_color=”#ffffff” custom_background=”#ed1c29″ custom_text=”#ffffff” outline_custom_color=”#666666″ outline_custom_hover_background=”#666666″ outline_custom_hover_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” color=”grey” size=”md” align=”center” button_block=”true” add_icon=”” i_align=”left” i_type=”fontawesome” i_icon_fontawesome=”fas fa-adjust” i_icon_openiconic=”vc-oi vc-oi-dial” i_icon_typicons=”typcn typcn-adjust-brightness” i_icon_entypo=”entypo-icon entypo-icon-note” i_icon_linecons=”vc_li vc_li-heart” i_icon_monosocial=”vc-mono vc-mono-fivehundredpx” i_icon_material=”vc-material vc-material-cake” i_icon_pixelicons=”vc_pixel_icon vc_pixel_icon-alert” custom_onclick=”” link=”url:%23″ custom_onclick_code=””][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_btn title=”Start Your Tuition Assistance Application” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ed1c29″ custom_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fsssandtadsfa.my.site.com%2Fschoolportal%20″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_btn title=”Schedule a Consultation” style=”custom” custom_background=”#ed1c29″ custom_text=”#ffffff” shape=”square” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fcalendly.com%2Faa-tuition-assistance%2Ftuition-assistance-consultation”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Contact us to register for a tuition assistance webinar:

Evening Webinars: October 25, November 14, December 5, 2023; January 23, 2024 Admission Applicants

Current Students: November 11, 2023[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”faqs”][vc_column][vc_raw_html css=”.vc_custom_1686000410221{margin-top: 15px !important;margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”]JTNDZGl2JTIwY2xhc3MlM0QlMjJhYXNlcCUyMiUzRSUwQSUyMCUyMCUzQ2RpdiUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTIyYWFnYXAlMjIlM0UlM0MlMkZkaXYlM0UlMEElMjAlMjAlM0NpbWclMjBzcmMlM0QlMjIlMkZ3cC1jb250ZW50JTJGdXBsb2FkcyUyRjIwMjMlMkYwNiUyRlNtYWxsTG9nb1NWRy5zdmclMjIlMjBhbHQlM0QlMjJJY29uJTIyJTIwY2xhc3MlM0QlMjJhYWljb24lMjIlM0UlMEElM0MlMkZkaXYlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”faq-section”][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion style=”modern” shape=”square” active_section=”0″ no_fill=”true” collapsible_all=”true” el_class=”faq-section”][vc_tta_section title=”What is tuition assistance?” tab_id=”what-is”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]All tuition assistance at Albuquerque Academy is based on financial need and does not require repayment. Partial and full tuition grants are available. The amount of assistance for which a student is eligible depends on the financial resources of their family.

Albuquerque Academy evaluates family financial resources according to policies grounded in fairness and equity and following the National Association of Independent Schools’ best practices for financial assistance programs. First and foremost, families are expected to use their own resources to make a maximum and honest effort to pay for their child’s tuition at Albuquerque Academy. Tuition assistance may help some families cover the gap between what they can be expected to pay — based on the evaluation of their financial information — and the full tuition expense.

The decision to enroll your child at Albuquerque Academy may require you to reframe your financial priorities and expectations and adjust how you spend your discretionary income on a year-to-year basis.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How do we apply for tuition assistance?” tab_id=”how-to-apply”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Complete and submit an application, called the Parent Financial Statement or PFS, on the website School and Student Services (SSS), pay the $60 processing fee, and upload all required documents by the published deadline.

Current families who were not awarded tuition assistance at the time of enrollment but would like to apply for assistance for the upcoming school year should contact Emily Kienzle, associate director of tuition assistance, before submitting their Parent Financial Statement.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What does tuition assistance cover? We partner with a web-based third party, School and Student Services (SSS), to verify information, assess financial capacity, and calculate an estimate of what a family can be expected to pay (aka the “family contribution”) using key financial factors (most, but not all, are in the bulleted list below). If the amount a family is expected to pay toward the tuition is less than the full annual tuition expense, a student has financial need and is eligible for tuition assistance.

Considerations for eligibility:

[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”How is tuition assistance awarded?” tab_id=”how-awarded”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Need-based grants are awarded to selected incoming students at all grade levels who apply and qualify for tuition assistance. While we would like to provide assistance to every admitted student with demonstrated financial need, our resources are limited and unable to support all who qualify. After admissions decisions have been finalized, but before admission decisions are sent to families, the Tuition Assistance Selection Committee meets to prioritize potential award recipients based on the strength of their admission profiles. Typically, incoming students who are selected to receive assistance are ranked among the top students accepted for admission. Children can be admitted and qualify for assistance yet still not receive an award because of their relatively lower rank within the admitted-student pool.

Tuition assistance is typically renewed each year for returning students who demonstrate, through their updated tuition assistance application, that financial support is necessary to continue enrollment.

It is our goal to award 100% of the amount for which the admitted student qualifies.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What is the average income of a family that qualifies for assistance?” tab_id=”income-qual”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Because grants are awarded to families across a wide range of income levels, providing such a number would not accurately convey who is served by our program. Many financial factors in addition to income, such as net worth, family size, and number of children in tuition-charging schools, are considered in the evaluation of a family’s financial need. Families who have more than one child enrolled at Albuquerque Academy may qualify for assistance at relatively higher household income levels.

We are happy to schedule a personal consultation with you to discuss your financial situation and if it makes sense for you to apply.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What happens in cases of divorced, separated, or never-married parents and blended families?” tab_id=”family-situations”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Both biological parents — and their current spouses and/or partners, if any — must submit separate Parent Financial Statements and required tax documentation on SSS, regardless of whether one parent has disclaimed any responsibility, legal or otherwise, for educational expenses. The financial resources of step-parents or partners will be considered in the calculation of financial need on a case-by-case basis.

We understand that issues with non-custodial parents/guardians can be complicated. Please contact us if extenuating circumstances exist regarding your child’s other biological parent.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Must both parents be fully employed to receive tuition assistance?” tab_id=”parent-employment”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Although parents are not required to be fully employed, they do have the primary responsibility to pay tuition. Parents are expected to fully use all family resources before assistance funds are awarded. The ability to work is a resource almost all parents have. We expect a minimal level of income, equal to one full Academy tuition, from each parent. If a parent earns less, then an income equal to one full Academy tuition is attributed to that parent in the calculation of family contribution and proposed grant. Exceptions are granted to parents with a disability, caring for a preschool child or disabled dependent, and of retirement age.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Are there special instructions for families who have multiple children applying for assistance?” tab_id=”multi-children”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Parents only need to file one tuition assistance application for all their children applying for tuition assistance. Students attending or applying to the Academy should be listed as applicants; other children should be listed as dependents.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”What results are possible for admission applicants who also submit a tuition-assistance application?” tab_id=”results”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Students who receive an “admit” decision will receive one of the following tuition assistance decisions. An “admit” decision does not mean that an enrollment spot will be held open indefinitely for your child. Please read all correspondence carefully to understand the requirements and deadlines that must be met to reserve an enrollment spot.

Students who receive an “Admission Waitpool” or “Deny” decision will not receive a tuition-assistance decision.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”When will we know if we receive a grant?” tab_id=”when”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Tuition assistance decisions for new applicant families will arrive electronically on the same day admission decisions are released. As long as your child remains at our school, we plan to renew their tuition assistance each year according to your family’s financial need (as determined through SSS and our own policies) and as resources allow. Changes in income, net worth, family status, the enrollment of other children at tuition-charging schools, and/or other financial considerations may result in an increase or decrease in an award amount from year to year. In the past, grant amounts have typically remained similar from year to year for families with no major changes in their financial circumstances.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Must I reapply for tuition assistance each year?” tab_id=”reapply”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]Yes, even though we budget on a multi-year basis with the assumption that we will support students through their entire tenure at the Academy, a family must reapply every year by the deadline. The most important thing a family can do each year is adhere to all deadlines and make a complete disclosure of all financial circumstances.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Is tuition assistance available to current students who have not previously received assistance?” tab_id=”no-previous-assistance”][vc_column_text el_class=”heading-expander”]It is our community’s value that we care for fellow Chargers in need.
